University campus dining hall (Mensa) of the Studierendenwerk Bremen receives award

The University campus dining hall (Mensa) of the Studierendenwerk Bremen was awarded four out of five leaves as a vegan-friendly canteen. This year, one canteen per Studierendenwerk was admitted to the Germany-wide campaign. All other Studierendenwerk Bremen canteens also offer vegan food to varying degrees.

"We are delighted with the positive feedback we have received from students about our range of dishes, especially the plant-based options. This feedback and the award of our university canteen as a vegan-friendly canteen by the animal rights organization PETA confirm once again how well we are positioned with our offer," says Hauke Kieschnick, Managing Director of Studierendenwerk Bremen.

Alongside Domshof dining hall (Mensa) and NW1 dining hall (Mensa), the University campus dining hall (Mensa) is one of three Studierendenwerk Bremen canteens on the University of Bremen campuses. It also operates seven other canteens and cafeterias as well as an interim canteen.

"We can regularly offer several vegan dishes a day in the University campus dining hall (Mensa), a large salad bar, various milk alternatives as well as snacks and desserts with plant-based ingredients. Staff training and internal workshops on plant-based nutrition are just as much a part of our daily routine as the continuous search for and testing of products that could expand the range," continues Kieschnick.

As a social service provider, Studierendenwerk Bremen is responsible for students at public universities in the federal state of Bremen. In addition to a diverse range and numerous vegan dishes, the canteens offer the KlimaTeller and the Zero Waste Plate and use the Too Good To Go app to avoid food waste.
