Being a student is not always easy...
Apart from studying, many big personal changes occur during this period: Old friendships end and new relationships are formed. Parents may become more remote, partnerships develop, and there is a need to start planning for the longer term, both in terms of your career and your social life. It is common that new students, in particular, become a little disoriented, or feel under competitive pressure to perform, and suffer from self-doubt.
There are many reasons why you might want to consider counselling. Issues that we have often come across include:
- Work difficulties, concentration problems and writing blocks
- Anxiety over exams and failing
- Disorientation and fear of the future
- Excessive workloads
- Interpersonal problems
- Family conflicts, e. g. with parents
- Self-worth problems
- Problems with partners
- Separation and loss
- Crisis situations
We are here as a point of contact should you experience any of these, or any other problems of a personal nature or connected to your course. We have seen that, even though crises cause anxiety, they are also an opportunity to grow as a person and become more resilient.
We can offer a range of services for the issues you come to us with.
As a student, you are entitled to free, informal counselling from the Psychologische Beratungsstelle at any time, including during vacations. All staff, of course, observe strict confidentiality.
In partnership with the universities, the Studierendenwerk hosts Psychologische Beratungsstelle centres at a number of university locations. You can visit the centres on the Bremen University campus, at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, and at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.
